Job Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a crucial role in the design, development, and continuous improvement of heavy-duty industrial and hydro-excavation equipment. This position ensures customer and operational requirements are met through effective system design, validation testing, and performance analysis. As a central technical resource, this role supports manufacturing, quality, sales, and marketing to bring innovative, reliable, and cost-effective equipment to market.
Responsibilities
+ Design and develop new systems and components for hydro-excavation and other heavy-duty industrial equipment, and refine existing product designs.
+ Collaborate with sales and production teams to configure existing designs to meet customer specifications while reducing engineering time-to-market.
+ Apply standard and modular design methodologies to optimize performance, durability, and manufacturability.
+ Partner with manufacturing to maximize production efficiency, validate design accuracy, and support lean manufacturing initiatives.
+ Conduct validation testing and failure analysis to ensure high performance and product quality.
+ Develop design templates, drawings, and documentation to support engineering throughput and maintain consistency across product lines.
+ Work with R&D and Product Management to incorporate usability, durability, and market competitiveness into new equipment designs.
+ Support field teams and customers with troubleshooting and technical expertise.
+ Communicate customer and end-user feedback to drive product enhancements and strategic development planning.
+ Ensure all designs comply with applicable regulatory, environmental, and safety standards for heavy-equipment manufacturing.
+ Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with schedules and budget requirements.
+ Travel as needed for customer site reviews, prototype evaluations, and field testing activities.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
+ 3–5 years of experience in mechanical or systems design, preferably within heavy-equipment or related manufacturing.
+ Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical systems.
+ Proficiency in 3D parametric modeling software, such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
+ Strong analytical, creative, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities.
+ Self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma practices is a plus.
+ Experience with 3D printing and computer-aided manufacturing technologies.
+ Knowledge of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).
+ Proficiency in FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and AutoCAD.
Work Environment
The role involves working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. The candidate will utilize advanced technologies such as 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, Inventor), and participate in activities that may require travel for customer site reviews, prototype evaluations, and field testing. Dress code and other specific work environment details will be provided upon onboarding.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Green Cove Springs, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
