**Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD)** has an immediate opening for a **Economic Development Consultant** located at the Columbus General Office in Columbus, NE, Kearney Operations Center in Kearney, NE, Plattsmouth Office in Plattsmouth, NE, or the York Operations Center in York, NE. Position closes February 3 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to Economic Development Manager.
Position Summary
The incumbent promotes sustained economic development in communities and rural areas served at wholesale and retail by the District by retaining and recruiting jobs, capital investment and electric load. The incumbent works to prepare communities and rural areas for opportunities for economic development to improve the economic condition of the District's service area. Provides outstanding customer service and resolves customer issues.
Education, Training and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Management, or a related field plus 2 years of Economic Development experience and/or Chamber of Commerce experience and/or City/Civil Leadership experience required
OR
Associate's Degree in Business, Communications, Management or a related field plus 4 years of Economic Development experience and/or Chamber of Commerce experience and/or City/Civil Leadership experience required
OR
High School/GED required plus 6 years of Economic Development experience and/or Chamber of Commerce experience and/or City/Civil Leadership experience required.
Prior Related Experience
Prior professional economic development experience working with business and industrial prospects. Paid community economic development organization and/or city/civil experience are preferred.
Working knowledge of Nebraska's economic development processes and resources, electric costs, taxes, and financing tools. Experience using electronic/digital and online data tools and applications.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Completion of Economic Development Institute or equivalent IEDC economic development coursework is required within 5 years.
Certification as an Economic Developer (CEcD) is preferred within 5 years of entry into the position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with state and local economic development stakeholders to promote NPPD service areas and offerings to industry prospects. Document and internally share information with other business units, that is pertinent to helping maintain positive customer relationships and critical to the success of NPPD.
Gather and communicate relevant community and business intelligence supporting growth opportunities within the areas served by NPPD. Actively promote new locations for business and industry in communities served at wholesale and retail by NPPD to promote load growth and financial stability to the communities NPPD serves. Communicate regularly with potential new business and industrial customers to provide informed responses to requests regarding Nebraska's electric costs, new load processes/policies, business climate, development resource availability, taxes, and financing tools.
Serve on industrial site evaluation teams, promote the development of new industrial sites, and actively market existing industrial sites and available industrial buildings.
Facilitate and ensure community preparedness for business and industrial recruitment activities. Facilitate strategic planning sessions and assist with development of action plans. Prepare reports for individual communities/departments for their strategic planning sessions.
Assist communities with workforce development/retention, childcare, housing and entrepreneurship initiatives.
Utilize data to coordinate lead generation activities as well as community requests by generating and interpreting standard and specialized reports. Interpret data and prepare and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.

**Salary Information** _-_ Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
**Pay Grade -** 14 Monthly
**Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range:** $7,979.00 - $10,173.00
**Travel Required:** 25% to 50% (With frequent overnight stays, more than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) _Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview._

In addition to the base salary listed in posting, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.
Retirement Savings
NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
