Position Overview

Amergis Staffing is seeking an experienced School Counselor / School Mental Health Worker to support the emotional, behavioral, and social well-being of K–12 students. This role provides individual and group counseling, crisis support, and mental-health–focused interventions to help students build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and thrive academically and socially.

The Counselor collaborates closely with families, teachers, and school staff to create a safe, supportive environment and facilitates referrals to community mental health resources when needed. This position also contributes to school-wide mental health initiatives and prevention efforts.

Key Responsibilities

+ Provide individual and group counseling for students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or social challenges.

+ Support students in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, and healthy behavioral strategies.

+ Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and families to support student well-being.

+ Participate in crisis intervention and assist in creating safety plans as needed.

+ Facilitate referrals to external mental health agencies or community services.

+ Document all services provided in accordance with school, district, and state guidelines.

+ Contribute to the development and implementation of mental-health programming at the school.

+ Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and professional practice standards.

Minimum Requirements

+ FLDOE School Counselor Certification (required – this is the only accepted certification).

+ Counseling experience REQUIRED.

+ Licensing/certification aligned with state, facility, or contract requirements.

+ Degree requirements vary by state/contract (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Nursing, Human Development, etc.).

+ Complies with all professional standards of practice.

+ Current CPR (if applicable).

+ TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray (if applicable).

+ Current health certificate (if required by contract or state).

+ Must meet all state, federal, and local requirements.

+ Must be at least 18 years old.
