    Cardiac Device Specialist (CDS) - Bon Secours - Cardiology, Reynolds

    PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

    The Cardiac Device Specialist (CDS) provides technical, clinical, and related services in the area of Electrophysiology and Cardiology relative to Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIED's) in the ambulatory setting. The CDS must possess the ability to setup, operate, and troubleshoot various CIED programmers and be proficient in deciphering complex Cardiac Device data elements. In collaboration with the Electrophysiology and Cardiology team, this role serves to provide quality patient care for accurate CIED management, arrhythmia interpretation, and device utilization for noninvasive arrhythmia termination protocols. Management and interpretation of CIED remote data and comprehensive knowledge of the necessary navigation of remote sites is required. The candidate must demonstrate global Cardiac Device knowledge to Physicians and have the capacity to communicate various Cardiac Device applications to patients in a coherent manner. This position functions in a highly specialized and unique area which requires a high level of clinical acumen and independence.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    + Experience working in cardiac clinical setting, 3-5 years of cardiac experience preferred. NASPE certification preferred for RCIS/CEPS applicants.

    + Graduation from a recognized institution of Cardiac Device Technology and Cardiac Electrophysiology.

    + Competent in rhythm interpretation.

    + Certification by a nationally recognized association such as IBHRE is preferred.

    + Performs in-office and remote management of all Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device analysis with appropriate programming changes to ensure optimum patient care, verifying that the patient's implanted device is functioning properly and adhering to the standards of cardiac care as defined by Upstate Cardiologists.

    + Promotes excellent patient care by performing duties with a high degree of clinical acumen and independence.

    + Responsible for maintaining clinic schedules for all locations.

    + Monitors and manages daily remote alerts received.

    + Works with leadership and physicians to establish, implement, and maintain policies while striving for continual improvement.

    + Provides a method of detecting potential cardiac device abnormalities.

    + Responsible for trouble-shooting cardiac devices when remote transmissions are not working properly.

    + Provides support for administrative responsibilities within the Device department to include but not limited to filing, billing, appointment scheduling, and triage.

    + Documents and updates medical records as required.

    + Maintains regular contact with the patient, providing continuing rapport between the patient and the attending physician.

    + Acts as a liaison between doctors, patients and device reps to ensure that all parties are informed to provide an optimal standard of care and safety for all patients.

    + Conducts family and patient education for all implanted cardiac devices.

    + Responsible for answering patients’ questions regarding expectations, concerns, and general problems of all cardiac implantable devices.

    + Serves as a resource for physicians, pacemaker techs, and other staff in the office.

    + Some local travel required.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + BA/BS degree in related field. In lieu of educational requirements will consider 3-5 years full-time direct work experience or appropriate qualifications and experience in aligned training with demonstrated proficiency.

    + Competent in rhythm interpretation.

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Graduation from a recognized institution of Cardiac Device Technology and Cardiac Electrophysiology.

    + One year of clinical patient care experience in an acute care setting, long-term care facility, or health/hospice.

    + Certification by a nationally recognized association such as IBHRE is preferred.

    **Training** :

    + EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)

    OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

    + Performs other duties as assigned. Assists and supports other departments when needed.
