Position Description – Satellite Data Analyst (On-Site at NOAA, College Park, MD)
TRIAEM is seeking a Satellite Data Analyst to support the NOAA/NESDIS Satellite Analysis Branch (SAB). The successful candidate will provide scientific satellite remote sensing analysis to monitor and assess environmental events detected from satellite imagery and sensor data obtained from a wide range of NOAA and non-NOAA (Department of Defense, NASA, and foreign) satellites.
The analyst will work with data imagery and plots to track and provide forecast input for events such as fires, volcanoes, oil spills, and other environmental hazards for NOAA, government agencies, and the public. This work requires a strong understanding of satellite imagery and the underlying science it represents. Ideal candidates will have experience and knowledge in remote sensing, GIS, oceanography, physical meteorology, computer programming, and/or project management.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Analyze satellite imagery integrated with ancillary datasets to create briefings and products that help users mitigate disasters and environmental hazards.
+ Examine and analyze satellite imagery to identify and assess environmental events.
+ Lead and resolve technical, scientific, and compliance-related issues in support of system compliance.
+ Provide supervision and mentorship to other team members, as needed.
SAB Operations:
SAB operates 24/7, and all analysts share responsibility for supporting shifts as part of the operational schedule.
Required Skills:
+ 4-6 years of experience in meteorology, oceanography, remote sensing science, GIS, or a related field.
+ Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
+ Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
+ Strong aptitude and desire to perform daily analysis of environmental events.
+ Ability to work effectively within the framework established by management and collaborate with team members on assigned projects.
+ Must qualify to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
+ Flexibility to work assigned shifts as needed.
Training:
On-site training and certification will be provided by current staff to ensure analysts meet operational standards.
Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, oceanography, remote sensing science, GIS, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Additional Requirements:
+ Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident who has resided in the United States for at least 3 of the past 5 years.
+ Ability to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government facilities and systems.
Location:
This position is on-site at NOAA’s College Park Facility in College Park, MD.
