Adecco is hiring!
We’ve partnered with a leading civil construction firm in Boston to help them hire a Senior Estimator with a strong background in utility and heavy civil construction. This is a senior-level role with a clear path to Chief Estimator, and the opportunity to help build out an estimating department from the ground up.
Position: Senior Estimator – Civil & Utility Construction (Leadership Track)
**Location:** Dorchester, MA (Hybrid – Onsite Preferred)
**Compensation:** $160,000 – $200,000+ (open for top-tier candidates)
About the Opportunity:
This Senior Estimator role is ideal for someone who thrives in a leadership capacity and has extensive experience estimating large-scale civil utility projects—including natural gas infrastructure, underground duct banks, water/sewer systems, and specialty pipeline work.
You'll play a key role in preconstruction strategy, large bid execution, and departmental growth. If you're looking for a hands-on estimating opportunity with a seat at the leadership table, this could be the role for you.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead the estimating process for high-value civil and utility projects.
+ Interpret project documents and specs to develop detailed cost breakdowns.
+ Perform takeoffs and solicit pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
+ Manage the preparation of formal bid proposals and RFP/RFQ submissions.
+ Participate in pre-bid site visits and meetings to evaluate field conditions.
+ Collaborate closely with operations and leadership to align estimates with execution plans.
+ Recommend value-engineering options to improve project competitiveness.
+ Maintain internal cost data and tracking systems for future use.
+ Mentor junior estimators and support the development of an internal estimating team.
Required Experience:
+ 10+ years of estimating experience in civil or utility construction, ideally with a focus on natural gas, underground infrastructure, or public infrastructure projects.
+ Proven success bidding and winning projects in the $6M to $50M+ range.
+ Knowledge of labor rates, productivity, and unit/lump-sum pricing structures.
+ Proficiency with estimating tools such as Bluebeam, Bid2Win, HCSS, or similar.
+ Familiarity with regional permitting, local codes, and utility-related construction practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
+ Experience in project execution or a background as a Project Engineer.
+ Leadership or mentorship experience within an estimating or preconstruction team.
+ Familiarity with energy-related infrastructure or steel pipeline projects is a plus.
Why This Role Stands Out:
+ **Leadership Track** – Built-in opportunity to move into the Chief Estimator role within 2–3 years.
+ **High Impact** – You’ll help define team structure, process, and project strategy.
+ **Project Scale** – Be part of a firm pursuing and winning $100M+ in annual volume.
+ **Hybrid Flexibility** – Remote flexibility, but a strong preference for local, onsite collaboration.
Travel & Work Environment:
+ Based in Dorchester, MA with a hybrid work schedule (onsite presence preferred).
+ Up to 20% travel for site walks, pre-bid meetings, or client visits across New England.
Who You Are:
+ You've worked at a structured, mid-to-large contractor focused on civil or utility projects.
+ You’ve led large bid efforts and are comfortable in a self-directed, senior role.
+ You’re collaborative, detail-oriented, and ready to take the lead on high-stakes bids.
+ You’re not just looking to estimate—you’re ready to lead.
