    Responsibilities

    Position Overview:

    We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented **Automation/Testing Engineer** to support the **modernization of FAA air traffic control (ATC) systems** , including STARS, ERAM, and other advanced automation platforms. In this critical role, you will develop and execute comprehensive test strategies to validate system functionality, performance, and integration with the National Airspace System (NAS) infrastructure.

     

    You will work closely with systems engineers, developers, FAA stakeholders, and third-party vendors to design automated test frameworks and ensure that complex ATC systems meet stringent safety, performance, and reliability requirements.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts to validate functionality, performance, and interface compliance of FAA automation systems (e.g., STARS, ERAM).

    + Lead the test planning and execution across system development lifecycle phases, including unit, integration, system, regression, and acceptance testing.

    + Create and maintain detailed **Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Reports** , and **Test Traceability Matrices** aligned with system requirements and FAA standards.

    + Conduct test case development based on functional decomposition, use cases, and stakeholder requirements.

    + Develop test harnesses, stubs, and simulators as needed to support automation of complex ATC workflows and system interfaces.

    + Support **Interface Control Document (ICD)** validation through automated interface testing and protocol analysis.

    + Collaborate with requirements and systems engineering teams to ensure **test coverage** aligns with verified and validated requirements (via DOORS, Jama, etc.).

    + Work with FAA and contractor teams to conduct formal test events including dry-runs, Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), and Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E).

    + Perform system verification and validation (V&V) to ensure compliance with FAA performance, safety, cybersecurity, and integration requirements.

    + Document and track defects, coordinate resolution with development teams, and support root cause analysis of test failures.

    + Contribute to continuous improvement of test automation tools, methodologies, and test infrastructure for ATC system environments.

    Required Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + U.s. Citizen Or Green Card Resident (3+ years U.s. Residency)

    + Strong experience in developing and executing automated tests using tools like **Python, Selenium, JUnit, Robot Framework, or similar** .

    + Experience in system-level testing of large-scale, real-time, mission-critical systems—preferably in aviation, aerospace, or defense.

    + Proficient in test documentation, requirements traceability, and defect tracking tools (e.g., DOORS, Jira, Zephyr).

    + Knowledge of MBSE, SysML, or UAF frameworks and how they support system test planning and requirement validation.

    + Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

     

    Required Education and years** ** 

    Level I 

    + 0-4 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.

    **Substitution:** High school degree and an additional 6 years of experience

    **Salary Range:** $57,800 - $90,350

    Level II 

    + 5-9 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.

    Substitution:  

    + Masters degree with 3-7 years of experience would qualify

    + PHD degree with 0-4 years of experience would qualify

    + Highschool degree with an a minimum of 14 years total.

    **Salary Range:** $77,500 - $120, 275

    Level III 

    + 10-15 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.

    Substitution:  

    + Masters degree with 8-13 years of experience would qualify

    + PHD degree with 5-10 years of experience would qualify

    + Highschool degree with a minimum of 24 years total.  ** **

    **Salary Range:** $93,200 - $145,550

    Level IV 

    + 16-24 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.

    **Substitution** :

    + Masters degree with 14-22 years of experience would qualify

    + PHD degree with 11-19 years of experience would qualify

    + Highschool degree with a minimum of 26 years total.

    **Salary Range:** $112, 700 - $176,150

    Desired Qualifications

    + Experience testing systems within the **National Airspace System (NAS)** or FAA domain.

    + Exposure to **cybersecurity testing** , secure protocol validation, and FAA system certification processes.

    + Familiarity with FAA Orders and testing standards (e.g., FAA-STD-028E, FAA-E-2721, FAA-R-0101).

    + Experience with simulation environments, testbeds, or real-time data feeds for ATC systems.

    + ISTQB, CSTE, or related software testing certifications.

    + Familiarity with **FAA automation systems (e.g., STARS, ERAM, TBFM, TFMS)** or similar command and control systems.

    Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package.
