    **Job Summary:** The Patient Coordinator assists the practice manager and providers in maintaining a patient/customer focus, supports the delivery of highest quality care, shares a passion for patient and customer centered care, and assists in meeting or exceeding initiatives within the practice and supports practice operations by performing clinical and administrative responsibilities

    Accountabilities:

    Coordinator Duties:

    + Coordinates the activities of clinical program(s) and/or initiative(s) within the practice. Assumes a leadership role in program/initiative development, implementation, and management, as per direction from practice leadership

    + As appropriate, generates/creates reports to monitor performance against pre-established expectations/metrics

    + Act as the communication link to the practice regarding program/initiative changes, improvements, effectiveness, and efficiency: solicits feedback on current and new programs/initiatives and responds accordingly

    + Provides support to practice leadership for establishing, implementing, and maintaining practice policies, procedures and efficient systems that support daily operations and/or clinical program/initiative effectiveness.

    Clinical Duties:

    + Maintain medical supplies and stocks exam rooms appropriately, checks equipment to ensure that it is in proper working order, and reports broken equipment to supervisor

    + Rooms patients, obtains patient vital signs, documents properly on patient chart, and reports abnormalities to provider

    + Performs laboratory and screening tests, prepares specimens for transport to the lab, and coordinates with provider to follow up on lab result

    + Coordinates communication with outside contacts (e.g. hospital, radiology)

    + Coordinates the activities of assigned care providers; may participate in evaluating performance of assigned providers (e.g. medical assistants)

    + Cleans and sterilizes instruments according to established practices and disposes of infectious waste properly

    Patient Services Associate Duties (as needed/directed):

    + Answers patient calls, responds to caller requests based on principles of practice, triage calls to appropriate person, and retrieves voicemail messages according to practice protocol.

    + Schedules appointments appropriately informs patient of any appointment time changes, confirms appointments

    + Performs patient check-in/check-out functions: verifies insurance, registers patient, informs team of patient's arrival, attempts to collect payments on accounts and processes according to policy

    + Identifies if referral is required for care and verifies validity of location, date & number of visits

    + Issues referrals for specialists and diagnostic studies as directed

    + Maintains up to date knowledge of insurance requirements pertinent to patient service and billing procedure

    Customer Services Duties:

    + Greets and interacts with patient in a positive, pleasant, and professional manner and assists with problems and questions

    + Establishes positive relationships with patients by demonstrating knowledge of patient history with practice, treating them with compassion and responding to their individual needs

    + Focuses practice on patient needs by communicating patient information to practice employees as appropriate

    + Gives clear explanations to patients regarding medical care and informs patient of care and follow-up as appropriate

    + Advises patients about office policies and procedures; returns patient phone calls as defined by the practice

     

    Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

     

    Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

    Qualifications:

     

    3+ years of medical office experience (Required) Advanced degree (Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's may be considered in lieu of experience)

     

    Associate's Degree health-related or science area of study (Preferred)

    Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications:

    MA certification (Required)

     

    CPR certification (Required)

    Salary Range:

    $18.97 - $29.20/Hourly
