    Position Description

    Reporting to the Finance Administrator, the Finance Officer is a full-time Civil Service position. The Finance Officer works as an integral part of the Metro Arts Finance Team and Arts Commission. The position performs moderate to complex professional and analytical work involved in finance and administration. The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the functional needs of the Metro Arts Finance Division.

     

    The job involves complex financial analysis, research, and skilled communication. The job requires the ability to analyze and utilize problem-solving methods. Participates in and handles various aspects of operations and performance involved in a finance-related field of Metropolitan Government. Performs related duties as required.

    Typical Duties

    + Performs various complex professional finance functions as instructed by the Finance Administrator, which may include using pivot tables and other functions.

    + May perform accounting, auditing, compliance, budgeting, purchasing, investing, and other professional finance functions as assigned.

    + Participates in and handles various financial compliance-related tasks.

    + Performs administrative and/or lead duties.

    + Researches, analyzes, interprets, and produces financial and narrative reports and or projections for presentation at Committee and or Commission meetings.

    + Understands government and state financial rules, regulations, and accounting principles.

    + Deliver a high-level of prompt, accurate, and courteous customer service to clients, departments, or members of the public.

    + Assess issues and delivers answers, exercising judgment and latitude where appropriate.

    + Engage fully in all team responsibilities and duties; meet team goals and assume personal responsibility for individual and shared tasks.

    + Studies and verifies accurate financial information.

    + Handles routine complaints and questions regarding professional finance-related issues.

    + Researches and resolves financial-related problems.

    + Prepares and makes bank deposits.

    + Assists with documenting procedures and instructions.

    + Provides analytical services to clients, departments, or members of the public.

    + Carries out special projects as needed.

    + Analyzes and evaluates organizational issues, procedures, and practices when needed.

    + Evaluates public policy issues and plans when needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

     

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
