The Certified American Sign Language Interpreter will assist deaf patients, their families, and clinical, professional staff by interpreting dialogue from spoken English to American Sign Language to ensure the coordination of information flow for issues to be resolved.
A caregiver in this position works onsite, Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, with travel requirements within Northeast Ohio sites.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Interpret information such as patient histories, physician instructions to patient, patient questions for physician, nurse-patient dialogue.
+ Conduct preoperative or postoperative education and communicate the ramifications of accepting treatment or undergoing surgery, ensuring that patients understand their illness, its treatment, and their legal rights.
+ Using a broad spectrum of professional discipline and socioeconomic and cultural perspectives, relay sensitive information including diagnosis of terminal or severe illness, death of a family member during treatment, surgery, or information pertinent to ethnic, cultural, or religious values, morals, and customs.
+ Work with designated contact to coordinate and respond to patient requests and problem resolution to provide timely follow-up to complaints.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Anatomy and other medical terminology are attained through formal coursework or experience.
+ Two years of professional interpreting experience.
+ Two years of ASL (American Sign Language) experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
+ Offset: Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience.
+ National Interpreter Certified (NIC), Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), Certificate of Interpretation (CI).
+ National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Level IV and V, Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Advanced, Master and Medical Interpreter Certificate or Certificate of Transliteration (CT) certifications through the RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) required.
+ Must possess a valid State Driver's License and maintain automobile insurance coverage.
+ Must obtain Ohio license within 30 days of start date.

Physical Requirements:
+ May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting; manual dexterity sufficient to perform work on a PC or mobile device.
Personal Protective Equipment:
+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
