Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Controls / Equipment Engineer to join our Industrial Engineering team. This role supports the electrical design, controls development, and PLC programming for new and upgraded assembly and test equipment. The position is responsible for defining and implementing system requirements based on internal specifications, customer expectations, and overall equipment behavior—while developing documentation where requirements do not yet exist. This role includes full lifecycle responsibilities, including control system design, electrical panel layout, bill of materials creation, schematic development, system programming, simulation/testing, and start-up/commissioning support.
Responsibilities
+ Develop electrical schematics for new equipment based on specifications and existing design templates.
+ Assist in the build and refinement of electrical control enclosures to improve future designs.
+ Develop PLC and HMI programs for new equipment following specifications and standardized templates.
+ Create robot programs and electric actuator templates for new equipment platforms.
+ Maintain updated software change logs and repositories for issue tracking and progress documentation.
+ Commission new equipment, including troubleshooting wiring, controls logic, and system interactions.
+ Support pre-production builds and assist with training and transitioning equipment to production teams.
+ Create operating manuals, troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation using established templates.
+ Participate in equipment design reviews and assist in resolving technical issues; recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
+ Contribute to equipment commissioning schedules and project timelines.
+ Review and evaluate supplier documentation when equipment is sourced externally.
+ Implement engineering changes and maintain updated documentation, schematics, and software.
+ Provide training and technical documentation to the Maintenance team.
+ Support knowledge transfer of programming and troubleshooting techniques to enable Maintenance-led support.
+ Prepare spare parts lists, documentation, and technical references.
+ Participate in various engineering projects, trials, and technical initiatives as assigned.
+ Travel may be required to support equipment installations domestically or internationally.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 2+ years of relevant experience, including coursework in engineering or related technical disciplines.
+ Bachelor of Science in Engineering (preferred).
+ Ability to specify, program, and commission industrial controls for manufacturing equipment.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days in the office.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Cazenovia, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $43.20/hr.
